Workshops and Events

Weekly Garden Clubs

We offer four weekly Garden Workshops to benefit people living with dementia and their carers. Each session begins with some relaxed social time, accompanied by tea, coffee and biscuits, followed by a gardening activity that is designed to encourage everyone to get involved in and enjoy.

Our experienced workshop leaders, along with our fantastic team of volunteers are always on hand to support and ensure that everyone has a fulfilling experience with us.

We hold our workshops year-round… rain or shine! If the weather turns, we simply move inside to our cozy activity shed to continue the fun!

Our Garden Clubs are fully funded, so if you’re interested in joining us, please contact us to arrange a visit and get some more information.

Carers Cafe

We host a monthly Carers Café at The Red Shed which is open to everyone. It’s a warm, inclusive space where carers can relax, enjoy a cup of tea and connect with others. Activities are available for guests living with dementia, providing engaging options so carers can unwind knowing that their loved ones are happily occupied.

We regularly invite visitors along to the Cafe from local dementia and care services to offer helpful information and support. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others who are in similar situations, share experiences and lighten the load together.

We would love to have you join us – please find more details about our Carers Café here.

Dementia Involvement Group

The Red Shed is proud to be a member of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR). The NIHR funds local collaborations to support applied health and care research, as well as the integration of health and care evidence into everyday practice. These collaborations, known as ‘Applied Research Collaborations’ (ARC’s), partner with The Red Shed and the University of Hertfordshire to make a real impact.

Together we host a Dementia Involvement Group at The Red Shed – This group provides an important platform for those living with dementia, as well as their carers, to shape dementia research and influence the development of dementia services. Several of our Red Shedders actively participate in these meetings, contributing to vital research projects taking place in the East of England.

We are always on the lookout for new members to join and share their valuable experiences. As a way of saying thank you for their time, participants receive a shopping voucher for each session they attend – we really value their contributions and want to give something back for the difference they are helping to make.

If you feel you can contribute to dementia research and would like to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.

Friendship Group

In addition to our weekly garden workshops, we also run a monthly friendship group which is designed to encourage older people to get out, meet new friends and enjoy a variety of gardening activities and crafts.

The sessions are a great way to stay active, learn new skills and connect with others in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. As always, our team is on hand to provide support and ensure everyone has a great time.

The friendship group is open to all older people, not only those living with dementia – If you’re interested in joining our sessions, please get in touch to find out more!
